Hey! I’m Chelsy, a regular woman who used to have a regular job. I believe it’s the little things in life that count, the ones that some forget to mention but never forget. Being passionately attached to my computer and kicking ass in Call of Duty are my two favorite things. Feel free to ask for my username.
Today, I consider myself the luckiest person on earth.
But that wasn’t always true.
After years of exploring many different fields, I had thought I had found my niche in a Subway Management Career. I had just moved into a new home and was managing four Subway restaurants within two years. Life was great!
And then it wasn’t; I was laid off in February 2009.
I was terrified of the unknown I faced. And I was scared of the disappointment I’d bring to those I cared about. I had no idea what the path ahead of me looked like. And with the economy in crisis, I wasn’t sure how, when, or where I was going to find another job, especially one that I enjoyed. It was all so frustrating. I then caught a gig acting and modeling which gave me some free time to decide what to do for the future. Then one day the crazy thought of working for myself popped into my head. There are plenty of people out there who have started completely from the bottom, why the hell can’t I?
Although the entrepreneurial path was risky, it was invigorating and just felt right. Thankfully, while still working for the media industry, I had built years of self-taught coding, designing and marketing.
Looking back, getting laid off was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Without my 9 to 5 job holding me back, I’ve had more flexibility with my schedule to be able to enjoy the little things in life while still being able to meet the needs of my clients. The end result is a lifestyle built around quality time with my family and my dream coming true.
